PERIPETEIA ARTIST RESIDENCY

Run by Cooperative Nostates, Peripeteia Artist Residency is an artist residency located within the historical Piiri mental hospital area in Seinäjoki, Western Finland. Surrounded by parks and conservation areas, the residency provides artists with an inspiring environment as well as accommodation and tools in a collective workspace within walking distance of essential services. The residency provides accommodation, workspace, and access to tools in a collective workspace for an artist-friendly fee. Members of the cooperative offer visiting artists a sense of community and a local network during their stay.

The Peripeteia Artist Residency offers year-round opportunities for working periods of varying lengths in Seinäjoki. The residency aims to provide resources for focused creative work and to create opportunities for interaction with local residents, enriching the area’s cultural life.

Artists are encouraged to propose projects that foster  collaboration with local actors or involve creating art through presence and dialogue with the local community. This can take the form of participatory art, workshops, or exhibitions. The cooperative supports artists in finding local partners and collaborators.

The residency values community, and is committed to social, cultural, economic, and ecological sustainability, as well as site-specific approaches.

ARTISTIC WORK AT THE RESIDENCY

MINIRESIDENCIES AND GUEST ACCOMMODATION

From time to time, space becomes available between residency periods or due to cancellations. Alongside our regular open call, we offer shorter residencies or guest accommodation ranging from one night to three weeks. Short stays can be arranged by phone or through an informal email request.

A private room in the accommodation facilities is suitable for smaller-scale work, writing, or, for example, media artists. The bright rooms are equipped with desks and easels.

A separate studio space is located nearby, at the end of the street in Nostates' collaborative workspace, where easels and work desks are available. The space includes tables and seating for public events of up to approximately 25 people and is suitable for practices such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, or community-based art. The shared facilities have good ventilation and provide access to equipment such as a printing press and a Hollander beater.

The residency provides a starter set of basic materials, although artists are generally expected to cover the costs of their own materials.
